How are We Different
How We Are Different

A Whole-Person Approach
Center for Solutions sees addictions as the result of several areas of the person in dysfunction. The whole-person approach treats those key areas, in addition to spirituality, family therapy, and more. As a result, clients become more healthy, balanced, "centered" and happy. Our clients leave treatment with an increased level of awareness and more skills and confidence in creating the lives they want, complete with good relationships.  The disease model implies that there is something wrong with a person that cannot be healed. While there may be predispositions to addiction (physically, emotionally, and socially), Center for Solutions is able to identify and treat these areas, using the most state-of-the-art methods available today. For example, research has shown that there are indeed alcoholic bio-chemistries that make some people predisposed. But, rather than a "disease", these are considered to be conditions that can be treated and/or managed and their impact dramatically reduced. In addition, emotional issues, childhood traumas and other significant personal and interpersonal problems are profoundly addressed by our professional staff.

Powerful vs. Powerless
Center for Solution believes that all clients have been successful at some time in their lives.  It is easy to get stuck repeating the same strategy even when it is not working.  The professional staff at Center for Solutions will challenge you to think differently and to try some other strategies to solve your drinking problem.  While it will be difficult at times to have your thinking challenged, it is the only way we know to stimulate your creativity and empower you to try something different.  Different enough to enable you to take control over alcohol rather than have alcohol remain in control of you.  The process requires lots of work and may be the greatest challenge you have overcome during your life, but success is worth it.  We believe that the one-size-fits all mentality that characterizes current approaches to problem drinking has limited the options available to people struggling with alcoholism.  If you believe you can…you will.

Choice vs. One Day at a Time
Every conscious change in a person’s life begins with a choice.  Even those who use the "one day at a time" approach find that one day they simply decide, "I will never drink or use again!" Center for Solutions sees the client as the expert and encourages each client to make this choice for themselves and in this way take their lives back into their own hands. This commitment is made in a meaningful environment and stays with the person long after they have left Center for Solutions. We know problem drinkers experience some degree of failure while trying to find a strategy that works for them.  Most people do not like being told what to do or how to do it and therefore each client has an opportunity to develop a recovery plan that works for them on a personal level.

Small Facility vs. Institutional Setting
Center for Solutions is a residential based treatment facility designed to provide on site residential treatment to clients participating in a solution focused therapy program.  The residential setting is a home like environment that can accommodate up to twelve clients.  The facility is located in a rural, serene setting, sitting on 10 acres of land.  The residential house models the program’s alternative approach by moving away from the traditional institutional, or hospital like setting.  The environment in very homey, humanistic, and highly conducive to sobriety.  The setting is arranged to represent as close to our clients home environment as it can so they can feel the comforts of their home while they are working on issues that are very difficult for them.

No Shame, No Blame
Center for Solutions believes that shame and blame do not cause clients to modifying their negative behaviors. Quite the contrary.  It often brings up resentment, belligerence, and lowers self-esteem in the face of life's challenges.  Center for Solutions uses a positive approach that engages each person's will and strengthens each individual's sense of self-worth. Skills are given to help people choose and become more aware so that addictive behaviors are not rs each individual's sense of self-worth. Skills are given to help people choose and become more aware so that addictive behaviors are not repeated in the future

Transitional Support vs. Ongoing Meetings
Center for Solutions emphasizes empowerment and building coping skills. Clients are encouraged to participate in Aftercare sessions with other Center for Solutions alumni or in their home communities. The emphasis is not on long-term dependence on our staff or meetings.  Clients leave armed with a variety of easy, yet very powerful techniques and are encouraged to do what works for them on an individual basis.   Center for Solutions is not anti AA and if this means of support has worked in the past, then by all means they are encouraged to continue to do what works.
